“Talent wins games, but team work and intelligence wins championships”.
On the 4th october, SKPS hosted 18th Kottayam Sahodaya Badminton Tournament, a day filled with fervour and excitement experienced amidst thrills, shrills and cheers.The tournament took place at SKPS indoor stadium with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere.
The official inaugural function began at 10.00 a.m with the lovely orison by the school choir to pay salutation to the Lord Almighty, followed by the welcome of our beloved manager Rev. Fr. Tomy Thervalakattayil. He emphasised on the importance of sports in a child’s life. The meeting was presided over by Shri. Benny George, President of Kottayam Sahodaya. His esteemed presence and guidance enlightened the audience. The most distinguished guest of the day, Shri. Mons Joseph MLA lighted the customary lamp to mark the inauguration of day’s proceedings and addressed the audience. After that the inauguration of our renewed badminton court was done by Shri.Sebastian V Mathew, the National Arm Westler Champion. He was adorned with a ponnada and a momento was gifted to him by Rev. Fr. Philip Kochuparambil as a token of love and appreciation. Finally Shri. Franklin Mathew, Treasurer of Kottayam Sahodaya expressed the vote of thanks.Succeeding the official meeting the court was opened for the much awaited tournament.
23 schools took part in the tournament. There were 27 teams altogether, hoping to qualify for the next round.The tournament featured male and female singles competition. The enthusiastic cheers from the spectators encouraged the participants very much.It was a delight to see the excitement with which competators challenged themselves. The standard of badminton was high and students competed with full verve and vigour giving a great account of themselves. The first day of the tournament winded up successfully with the timely coordination and kind cooperation of all.
